This was one of those sessions that makes me love my job. It was so easy and natural. In fact, every time I’m feeling burned out, I’m planning to drag them into a field with me for an hour or so.![]()

Every October I get surprised by the bright yellow wildflowers that appear out of nowhere. Yellow flowers are by far my favorite (sorry, bluebonnets). Last weekend I met Evie and JoJo by the preschool for a quick shoot in their custom Etsy dresses. And I discovered something new: It turns out if you put two active girls on a quilt in a field of bees and take away their shoes, they stay put. Can you say new strategy?![]()

Of course 2-year-olds are adorable but what I really love about them is how they’re funny without meaning to be. Over the course of this shoot, Sadie told me she was wearing her Frankenstein dress, assured me (and herself) that the cows and cactus were NOT real, and announced that she did, indeed, see Tinkerbell in my lens. (The last one was a relief since I had inadvertently sent her on the great Tinkerbell search with one of my “look at the camera” games. Note to self: Do not tell a 2-year-old girl who has just been to Disneyland that Tinkerbell is in your lens. Yes, she’ll look up. But she might also lean forward, furrow her brow, and look hard for Tink. Not the expected outcome but we went with it). I love how Sadie’s sweet, fun personality shines through in these shots.

I don’t know if I’ve ever played and laughed so much during a session. We all took turns amusing each other while I took some pictures. I’m pretty sure the girls thought I was the babysitter (the kind that lets you stay up late watching movies and eating junk food). In fact, when the session was almost over, the older one looked at me and asked suspiciously, “Are you the photographer?” Yep. And it doesn’t have to be painful.![]()

Hazel turned 2 a few weeks ago and Tracy & Scott had a backyard party at their new place to celebrate. Renee did most amazing The Very Hungry Caterpillar cake. You can see more of her fabulous birthday cupcakes here: Seamus’s dinosaurs, Kira’s Star Wars, Hazel’s 1 year bugs (which reminds me that I never blogged Finn & Will’s Rock n’ Roll birthday and still have Lars’s Rocket and Milo & Griffin’s Pirates to get to). Whew. If you’re starting to think that all we do is go to birthday parties, you would be right. At least we have fun friends!
